AFD BACK-OFFICE

Bogota D.C.

The intervention reconfigured the former director’s office into an open workspace aligned with AFD’s non-hierarchical organizational structure and its emphasis on resource optimization. The objective was to accommodate additional workstations while creating an environment that promotes collaboration, visual openness, and equitable access to natural light.

The new layout positions six hexagonal workstations with mid-height partitions. around a central mast that integrates vegetation and supplemental lighting. This radial configuration clears the perimeter of partitions, allowing daylight from the exterior façade to reach all workstations and freeing continuous space for circulation and informal interaction. The hexagonal geometry also serves as a modular system that can expand as staffing needs evolve, maintaining spatial coherence over time.

Environmental and well-being criteria guided the material and spatial decisions. A living green wall strengthens biophilic anchor that reinforces well-being and visual continuity across the space, while the semi-enclosed geometry of the desks provides individual focus without isolating occupants. The result is a setting that supports interdisciplinary work, clear communication, and a shared sense of purpose—transforming a previously hierarchical room into a collaborative hub for the agency.
